Sure, they’re a tad expensive, but you can’t go to a Disneyland or Disney World without at least getting their signature dessert – the Disney Dole Whip. It’s part of the whole experience! In fact, the pineapple soft serve gained a cult following since its inception in the ‘80s, with people waiting in line for up to an hour just to have a taste of the refreshing treat. There’s even an app that will tell you how long you have to wait before you can get your Dole Whip fix. But now you can make Disney Dole Whip at home! Disney has released the official recipe and you won’t believe how easy it is. You only need 3 ingredients. Vanilla ice cream. Pineapple juice. Frozen pineapple. That’s it! Now you can recreate the magic at home any day of the week.
Interesting Facts about Dole Whip
Disneyland has been offering Dole pineapple juice as early as 1975, but they didn’t start serving the soft serve until 1986. The tropical treat was first introduced at Disneyland’s Adventureland section in Orlando, Florida, where it is still served today. Perhaps part of the Dole Whip charm is the fact that unlike other iconic Disney snacks, it’s not available everywhere. You can only get it at select spots, such as the Aloha Island by the Tiki Room in the Magic Kingdom. In 1997, Dole Food Company licensed the dessert out to another company, called Kent Precision Foods Group. To this day, the brand is the sole manufacturer of the snack. But, they do also sell the mix in other shops using a different moniker: Dole Soft Serve. If you are from or visiting Hawaii, lucky you! The Dole Plantation offers the same dessert, along with other pineapple treats. While you can devour Dole Whip as is, Disney parks also offer other variations, such as the Dole Whip float which is topped with a maraschino cherry and a cocktail umbrella. They also offer rum-infused versions of the dessert, too! If you’re watching your weight, worry not. Dole Whip is only 80 calories per serving, so you can still enjoy the treat without feeling guilty about it… if you can have just one serving of it, that is! It might not contain addictive properties, but you’ll surely get hooked on it at first bite.
